Frankfurt Christmas market

Frankfurt Christmas market 2005

"The photogrpah was taken in Frankfurt Am main in Germany. Perhaps not the biggest, or perhaps the best but it is very atmospheric and within very easy reach of the city. For those on a short trip to the city the airport is within very easy reach. I have often gone from the market to my departure gate within 60 minutes, Germanic efficency!"

Advent Market in Vienna

The market is located in Vienna between two museums. It's rather small, but nice since not so much "plastics". I like it because of the handcraft stuff and good "Glühwein".

Olive Market Stall

Olive Market Stall

"I've visited it and its a really fascinating view of local markets all over :)

The market is a twice weekly one in the small market town of South Molton in Devon. Held in one of the few remaining Pannier Markets left in the county. Stalls are varied and eclectic and it is very popular with both locals and visitors. The olive stall has been going for a few years now and is one of the most popular. I love the way that they display their goods."

Bac Ha

Bac Ha Sunday Market

"Bac Ha has one of the most interesting and colorful markets in Vietnam. On every sundays, local people, mostly women, from children to old ladies, wearing beautiful colorful traditional dress gather in crowds for shoping and chatting. In northern part of Vietnam, every tribe has their own colors and designs in their clothing and it seems they wear those traditional dress not only for Sunday but everyday as their daily clothing."

Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan

The picture was taken in one of the river in Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan. The floating market is a common way of people there selling stuff, because they live on the water. So in early morning you will see many people in their boat go to floating market, selling and buying something. This boat with orange seller is just one of the example. The interesting thing is that orange was sold by a bucket that made it very appealing, instead of normally sold per kilogram.

Central Market in Kuala Lampur-an intersting, colourful place with lot of things to look for

In my short visit to Kuala Lampur, Malaysia, I had a visit to the Central Market. Central Market is a wonderful place for those to like to purchase art \ antiques. In this trip, I came across this particular shop which sells only masks. The arrangement of the masks attracted my attention.

Jerusalem Market

Jerusalem Market

"This shot was taken in 2007 when I made an 8 day trip to Israel. The sensory overload that is Jerusalem, it's people, religion, buzzing atmosphere and tension is one that I have not been party to anywhere else in the world.

The markets stand out to me as the coming together of some of the oldest cultures in mankind's history and to wander around them and witness people going about their trading was truly amazing."

Temerloh Sunday Market

Temerloh Sunday Market

"There is a famous Sunday Market place in Temerloh, called "Pekan Sehari". In fact this Pekan Sehari (One Day Market) is said to be the longest and biggest in the whole of Pahang. You can find it along the riverbank in town, at the vicinity of the Temerloh buses terminal.
At the Pekan Sehari, villagers from surrounding (and even from far away) kampungs bring and display their goods for sale. All kinds of goods and commodities can be found -- from fresh vegetables, meat, fishes, fruits, spices, local cakes and, well, anything attractive and edible that is, -- are sold here.
The sellers come normally by the riverboats early in the morning, and take their place before the customers arrive about 7.00 in the morning. There is a boat jetty at the river there. And Sunday mornings are busy days when boats come and go ferrying passengers and goods to the Pekan Sehari.
You will find the master weavers selling their hand-made mengkuang (pandanus leaves) crafts and items like mats, bags and baskets, and other creative local souvenir items.
When in season, you will find local fruits, such as the besta or mangosteens, durian, rambutan, duku, mata kuching and langsat. These fresh fruits from wild trees of the kampungs taste delightfully better than those from the commercial orchards.
For fish lovers, there is also a variety of freshwater fish available here, some freshly caught, from the surrounding villages. The prices available here are indeed cheaper than the market downtown.
This Pekan Sehari is a big affair to the kampung (and also town) folks, and there is joy and merriment inherent in the buying and selling of the goods. Friends and relatives from different villages meet and shake hands here. They have jovial talks, and light banter.
Well, if you’re in Temerloh, do take part, join the crowd. It’s free.
I can’t really describe the thrill. You’ll have to participate in it.
And, if you have nothing else to do, just take a boat ride on the river for fun. And enjoy the scenery.

Chichi Market, Guatemala

Chichi Market, Guatemala

"The Chichi market is probably the most colorful market I've ever been to. It's simultaneously deeply spiritual as well, as it occurs on Sunday in the area around Iglesia Santo Tomas, which sits atop what used to be a Mayan temple"

Market Street Market

Market Street Market

This is the famous Market on Charleston's Market Street. These "sweet grass" baskets are very expensive, the smaller ones selling for hundreds of dollars. The reason, they say, is that sweet grass is disappearing due to development in the region.

Olive Market

The olive market is situated in the Quartier Habous in Casablanca, Morocco, a whole courtyard is dedicated to selling olives, and the smell is intoxicating. The stall owners are very friendly and more than happy to allow you to taste.

Rural African Market

"This photo was taken in a rural market of Senegal, near the border with Guines Bissau. Typically of rural African markets the goods are laid out on covers on the floor. Bartering is the name of the game.

I spent 15 minutes in this small market. I could not stop talking to the people and trying to take photos. My guide made me hurry as we had to leave. I love the colours of such markets."
