Singapore Little India Market Stall

Singapore Little India Market Stall

It was taken several years ago during a short visit to Singapore. This market area within the Little India district looks fairly peaceful but at night it becomes alive when the Indian construction workers gather here to buy provisions and exchange gossip from home.

I liked it so much, I now live here!

Berry bowls

Berry bowls

One of the best things about visiting Ottawa's ByWard Market in autumn is buying a berry bowl. You can't beat a mix of blackberries, raspberries, blueberries and strawberries - what a treat!

Herbs on St Remy Market

Herbs on St Remy Market

Herbs in Saint Remy de Provence France. Great market! Very busy but the people are friendly. A lot of colors on this market and very fresh local products. Bought some herbs that are great for over the salad.

Kleurige tomaatjes

Kleurige tomaatjes

This photo was taken on a typical French market in Beaune. The vegetables looked and tasted fantastic. The market had a very relaxed atmosphere. Obviously the town has a lot of tourist because the info is also written in English.

Bahrains Marlboro Man

Bahrains Marlboro Man

The picture was taken in the beginning of december 2009 in the souk of Manama, Bahrein (Middle East). The man sold dried tobacco leaves. I asked him for permission and he agreed very gently. I gave the picture the friendly name of Bahrains Marlboro Man.

I am afraid that the lifestyle is changing, but hope that, even if people in the Middle East enjoy the malls more and more, souks are going to stay alive!

Tunisian Clementines

Tunisian Clementines

Happy to join the market! I snapped this one in the central market in Tunis, a fascinating place. I was aiming to take more gory pictures of animal parts in the butchery stalls, but couldn't quite bring myself to even look at most of it, so instead headed for fruit and veg!
All citrus was in season in January, and absolutely delicious.

Ecuadorian figures

Ecuadorian figures

This is the Otavalo market just outside Quito in Ecuador. It's supposed to be the biggest market in South America and the whole town revolves around its trade. The textiles, woolens and leather goods are amazing! I particularly liked these figures and they gave me a real feel of Ecuador.

In the Mskishi Market

In the Makishi Market, Naha

The Makishi Public Market is a market place near "Kokusai dori (the International Street)" which is the most prosperous street in downtown Naha. It was established in 1951. This market place has a two-storied building. In the first floor, you can buy many curious foodstuffs of Okinawa, e.g., heads or legs of pigs and brilliantly colorful fish. What's more, you can have them cooked and eat them in restaurants on the second floor.

Mulled wine

Forralt bor

I really loved the atmosphere of the market in Budapest- it was nice to see real crafts made by craftsmen. The forralt bor or mulled wine was good too.
