Mauritius Market at Quatre Bornes

Mauritius Market at Quatre Bornes

"Quatre Borne is a medium sized town on Mauritius and the Market is at the center off a busy street. Fruit and Vegetables, fish, sweets, drinks, clothes and toys are traded there."

There is a larger market in Port Louis, the capital of Mauritius - photos of which are also in my stream. There the bean shoots are so lush you can see them bursting with freshness...
I have literally hundreds of Market Photos from around the world because I like going to them and love the atmosphere...

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas!
originally uploaded by Norci

The Budapest Christmas Market is held to be amongst the ten best Christmas markets in Europe. The spectacular fair takes place every year from the end of November until 24th December in the heart of the city, in Vörösmarty Square.

The market also has a gastronomic side. On the event, beside the Hungarian stuffed cabbage, chimney cake and the fried dough the visitors can taste some another traditional Hungarian foods and beverages.

I wish you all Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

Amsterdam Floating Flower Market

Amsterdam Floating Flower Market

The last of the floating markets on the canals of Amsterdam, this is the Bloemenmarkt, on the Singel. In the past, nurserymen sailed up the Amstel and moored here to sell cut flowers and plants directly from their boats. Today, the stalls are still floating but are permanent.

It was taken at the indoor market in Siófok shortly after I arrived in Hungary from Scotland. I was amazed at the variety of produce on offer at the Market. Paprika symbolises Hungary for me.

Night market

Night Market

Silks for sale in the Luang Prabang night market, Laos.

From my travel journal:

At night we go to the night market, which is fantastic! Mostly silks for sale, but also many other textiles as well as things like bottled snakes and scorpions and many kinds of crafts. The whole market is just two long rows with goods laid out on either side. All this is lit with beautiful lanterns or small lightbulbs. It's very colourfull. At the far end is the food section. Lots of things I wouldn't eat, but they're interesting to see: whole flatfish, fried, and fried bats. Later we pass a restaurant with grills at each table. The meats include ostrich, deer, crocodile, and water buffalo.

Bagan market (Burma)

it really was a very authentic and colorful spot, and as these things happen: was accidental, just arriving in Bagan (middle of Burma) from the south we realized it was very cold weather (it was snowing in southern China - also quite rare) so we decided to go straight to the market to buy a jacket...

Chinese Market in Budapest

Chinese market

This is the entrance of the Chinese Market in Budapest. We call it Józsefvárosi Piac (Market of Józsefváros) which refers to the location, so we do not call it Chinese Market here. We even don't have a China Town the Asian immigrants are integrated at least when it comes to housing.

Mahane Yehuda market

Mahane Yehuda market

Jerusalem, "Mahane Yehuda" market, summer 2006. Shopping threw the market involves all kind of people from all society layers. Orthodox people with atheists, old and young rich and "not so wealthy"....
The colors of the market are visible, the sounds and smells are up to you to immagine. Worth a visit.
This market was a target of many suicide bombers. It had its share of terror and horror, and yet all are very welcoming there, smiling and you do not have to hide when taking a pic.

Fény (Light) street market

Originally uploaded by Norci

There are many markets in Budapest, Fény street market is one of them, it's situated behind the Mammut Shopping Mall, next to the Moscow square in Buda. It's a traditional Hungarian market, but it's not as famous, rustic and architecturally grand as the Vásárcsarnok (Central Market Hall) on the Pest side, but it is a good market with amazing Lángos next to my wokplace :) Honestly when I took this photo I'd a special and strange experience there, because I (with my cam) was sent away by the guard like Zsolt.

"I was traveling through Korond in Transylvania, when we stopped to take pictures. These baskets brought back memories from my childhood, because at that time in Hungary we used for shopping such baskets. They are woven from soft willow twigs. Basket waving is a special craft and today not many people can remember how to do it. This is why this picture is special, it show the revival of this ancient craft."
